Before accepting a friend request or a business proposal in my DMs, I usually take a moment to review the person’s profile. I scroll through their page to get a sense of who they are. I know many other people do the same.
Your profile, your comments, your likes, your views, your posts… they all tell a story.
Not just any story, your story.
Even at a young age, your online presence matters. Every picture, every comment, every video or post you share builds a picture of who you are.
Once in a while, take a scroll down your own page. Step into the shoes of someone seeing you for the first time, a future friend, a teacher, a coach, a potential employer, or even a stranger.
What will they think about you?
Ask yourself.
Do I come across as kind, respectful, knowledgeable, professional, positive? Or someone with chaos, controversy, conflict, or inconsistency?
Do my posts show my true values and passions?
Will someone trust me or want to work with me because of what they see here?
Remember, your online presence is the digital version of you and what you post online lasts longer than you think. Even jokes, videos, or trends can be misunderstood later.
Your digital footprint can help you build opportunities, or close doors, long before you meet someone in person.
So to the young ones, engage with intentions. Let your comments, posts, and likes tell the story you want the world to remember.
Think twice before posting or commenting.
Ask, Would I want my teacher, coach, or future self to see this?
Share what inspires you, what you learn, or what you love, not just what’s funny or trending.
Be authentic, but also kind and respectful.
Protect your privacy and avoid sharing too much personal information.
Your social media isn’t just for fun, it’s a reflection of who you are and becoming. Make it a reflection you’re proud of.
Because in today’s world, your reputation isn’t just what people say about you in private, it’s what they see when they tap your profile.
