When I was young,
I could remember my dad
used to call me ‘young lad’.
When I was young,
I assumed the moon was mine
because it followed me all the time.
When I was young,
I thought America flowed with milk and honey
so, for my travel, I saved lots of money.
When I was young,
I wanted to be an astronaut.
the risks and stress I feared not.
When i was young,
I loved comics and cartoons.
My favourite used to be ‘the baboons’.
When I was young,
my very loving mom
was my date for my first prom.
When I was young,
I preferred playing with other boys
than to be locked indoors with my toys.
When I was young,
I was promised the very best.
Only if, in my class, I came first.
When I was young,
I dreaded being ill.
I didn’t want that bitter pill.
When I was young,
life was so easy and simple.
These days, problems seem to triple.
