We are at a time when huge choices that are to determine the future of the world must be made. These choices take 3 forms.
- Silence, which is the avoidance and withdrawal from the fray. It is characterised by those who care not about what the outside world does, they live for themselves and their circle alone.
- Passive acceptance or partial submission to the truth. This is characterised by those who are part of the great enabling silence in politics, religion, justice, and so on. These set of people make their input once in a while. They talk without acting, and they are neither here nor there.
- The active and prophetic ones who refuse to accept the status quo. They are characterised by stern contributions to things that matter. They speak, they act and they make decisive decisions when necessary.
Each of us belongs to one of these sets of people. Unfortunately, the people in choice No.3 are limited in our society, overshadowing those in choices No 1 and 2.
Some people know nothing about what’s in the news, what trends, or what goes viral. They’re only focused on themselves and their circle alone. Even at the family level, they’re just there, merely existing, and have little or nothing to contribute.
We live in an era that either ignores, accepts, or accommodates evil, provided it’s not meted to us or anyone we know. The era of children and youths who want their lives in a jacuzzi, a feel-good moral freedom where they do anything to trend or to make money. They’re on the rise because the activists are limited.
Hence, we must take option No. 3 seriously, to call out injustice, moral disengagement, and other unethical behaviours and vices. We need to always stand for what is right, (whether we are directly involved or not) no matter the consequences.
We must understand that moral decadence amongst the young and delinquent is a product of so many factors. Some children do e*vil based on the background they were raised. Some participate in evil because they feel trapped and need to be rescued. Some do e*vil believing it is a way of life. Whatever the case may be, they need more than their family members to be redeemed.
We are all called to be part of this redeeming society. Activism is not for a set of people. Staying at a corner and merely observing is not sustainable. All hands must be on deck, to speak or act to correct evil and restore normalcy.
Stop marking time and start making a mark, society needs you!
