When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I was excited and joyful but as time went on, fear and anxiety started to creep in. Like many first-time mothers, I was nervous about what was to come. I read books, watched videos, and listened to doctors, but nothing seemed to calm my anxiety about the unknown, not in the pregnancy but in the delivery.
But the feelings changed one day. I came for antenatal and saw a pregnant woman walk in by herself. Within the period I was waiting, I saw her walk past to make a call at the reception. She had given birth, strong and agile without any family or friends by her side.
I watched her closely. I expected to see someone drained, overwhelmed, and fragile. Instead, she looked radiant and strong, laughing softly as she was talking to the person over the phone. “It wasn’t as bad as I thought,” I muttered. Instantly, I breathed, felt strong and prayed to have her kind of delivery.
That scene stuck with me. It gave me a different kind of strength and courage. I became confident, fearless and peaceful.
Till I had my baby, I kept telling myself, If this woman could do it so easily, I can do it the same way, and that was how it went.
We draw strength from others, and courage from those who have walked a path before us. It’s important that we not only watch but also build a circle of encouragement from it.
And here’s the take-home.
Learn from those who’ve gone before. Whether it’s starting a business or healing from loss, talk to people who’ve lived it. Their stories can calm your fears and build your faith.
Surround yourself with encouragers. Keep people close who speak life into your dreams and remind you of your strength.
Share your story. One day, your journey will inspire someone else. Don’t be afraid to let others learn from your path.
Be curious, not fearful.
Ask questions. Learn from mistakes. Let others’ successes inspire you, not intimidate you.
The path ahead may feel unfamiliar, but remember, you’re not the first to walk it. They have climbed the mountain, crossed the storm, and found their peace. Let their footsteps guide you. Let their strength be your starting point. And when it’s your turn, leave a trail of hope behind.
