THE ABYSS

FROM KAIMA’S DIARY

In the year 2047, humanity had grown complacent. The skies were filled with floating cities, and the ground was a mere afterthought. Earthquakes were rare, relegated to history books and disaster movies. But fate had other plans.

It began as a tremorโ€”a subtle shiver that rippled through the continents. Scientists dismissed it as a glitch in the seismographs. But then the ground yawned open, revealing a chasm wider than any ocean. The Earth itself seemed to gasp, as if awakening from a long slumber.

The Great Abyss, they called it. A colossal rift that stretched from pole to pole, swallowing cities, forests, and oceans. Panic swept across the globe. Governments crumbled, and alliances dissolved. People clung to their floating cities, praying that the Abyss wouldnโ€™t reach them.

But it did.

The first city to fall was New Atlantisโ€”a marvel of glass and steel suspended above the Atlantic. Its spires toppled, and its citizens screamed as they plummeted into the void. The Abyss swallowed them whole, leaving only echoes behind.
As the rift widened, it revealed ancient secrets. Gigantic roots, like serpents, coiled within the Earthโ€™s core. Forgotten civilizations emergedโ€”cities of crystal, libraries of light, and creatures that defied imagination. Some said the Abyss was a gateway to another dimension, a place where reality itself unraveled.

In the chaos, unlikely heroes emerged. Dr. Felix Singh, a geologist, descended into the Abyss in a makeshift pod. he discovered that the rift was sentientโ€”a wounded consciousness seeking solace. It hungered for memories, emotions, and experiences. And so, it devoured everything in its path.

Felix made a desperate choice. He connected his mind to the Abyss, sharing hes memoriesโ€”the taste of he’s grandmotherโ€™s curry, the touch of he’s loverโ€™s hand, the laughter of children. The rift quivered, its hunger sated momentarily. But it demanded more.

Soon, people volunteered to feed the Abyss. They leaped willingly, sacrificing themselves to preserve humanity. Each plunge added to the riftโ€™s knowledgeโ€”the joy of a first kiss, the sorrow of loss, the taste of salt on tears.

The world watched in awe and horror. The sky darkened as the Abyss consumed the sun, leaving only a pale glow. The remaining cities floated like fragile islands, their inhabitants clinging to hope. Felix’s, now part of the rift, whispered to them in dreams, urging acceptance.

And so, the Earth became a memoryโ€”a fading dream. The Abyss closed, sealing itself with a final quake. Humanity drifted among the stars, carrying stories of love, sacrifice, and wonder. They vowed never to forgetโ€”their past swallowed by the very ground they once walked upon.
