I have seen
War and bloodshed
for hatred in disguise.
I have seen
Racists hate and criticize
for mere skin color.
I have seen
Friends backstab friends
for jealousy and envy.
I have seen
Great men fall
for petty tricks of women.
I have seen
Brothers kill themselves
for mortal silver and gold.
I have seen
Spouses cheat
for better satisfaction.
I have seen
Women weep
for loss of a beloved child.
I have seen
Beggars smile
for a kobo that has made a day.
I have seen
The heartbroken curse
for pains buried inside.
I have seen
The oppressed cry out
for justice and freedom.
I have seen
The poor pray
for better days to come.
I have seen
Tribes threatened and killed
for what they believe in.
I have seen
The gods frown
for man’s inhumanity to man.
With my very eyes
I have seen.
And I can’t but wonder
how at peace the blind is.
