Never did he live a day in his present without looking back at his past. It had moulded him, shaped him, his wretched life in the suburb. He was what he had become today owing entirely to it.

He returned back to the country with his family after two weeks vacation in Austra. He had cut the holiday short because of his wife. Though he didn’t tell her, her shopping spree fever was beginning to blow holes in his pocket.

“I thought you said we will be staying for a month?” She had protested, eyeing him angrily.
“Something came up back home that needs my attention.” He lied effortlessly.
“Then go without us, is it necessary to return together?” She had asked sourly.
“We are all leaving darling.” He answered calmly.

All things being equal, he would have allowed her stay and have her way but who knows how long his business would be on the low. He had even had to send Julian back four days ago. He couldn’t afford to be overly extravagant until things were back to normal.

Queeneth was still sulking when they got home. She had refused to talk to him all through their long flight, her attention only on the kids. He didn’t begrudge her this attitude, she was used to getting anything she asked from him.

He wasted no time in contacting his informant for any new development.

“I haven’t heard from headquarters yet. Stay low.” A grumpy voice said from the other end of the line, irking him.
“How long are we looking at?” He asked irritated.
“As long as you are told! This is no game Dale, things are hot now. For your own good, stay low.” The voice barked harshly.

He gritted his teeth angry, ending the call with a curse. The smug little fool thinks he can command him as he choose and in a rude way at that! Hell, the money he pays them for immunity was three times what they earned annually. They should at least accord him some respect while dealing with him.

They always felt untouchable, those little brats on uniforms and they disgusted him with their show of self righteousness and importance while acting the upholder of the law when they were all on same page. He would have been happier if he could dispose them. However, he wouldn’t be making the same mistake Boss Greg made by cutting them off but he knew how greedy they could be, the whole lot of them. And he knew just how to handle them.

His boys were not as patient. He could see the fidgeting in their eyes when he assembled them three weeks later.

“Is anyone low on cash?” He asked staring from one face to the other. They shook their head stonily but none said anything. Good, he thought, his own anger crackling. If they had enough money on them, they wouldn’t dare rebel against his order.

” We lay low still. Mind the company you keep, make no new ones for now.” He rattled off, the dark aura emitting from him offering no room for protest.
“Is it that bad boss?” Tony asked breaking their silence.
“We take no chances.” He answered nodding curtly.

It wasn’t until another two months before they could come out from their hide out to strike again.
