The atmosphere around them was tensed. They had tails on them and this was bad for business. He didn’t know if they have be snitched upon but he was taking no chances. They would all lie low for the mean time, that was his command.

The inconspicuous message from his informant had been bleak and foreboding. They were being traced.

He watched the ten pair of grim eyes staring back at him, their countenance ominous. He knew their present disposition was not because their cash cow would temporarily be stripped from them, it was mainly the exhilarating thrill of success from each dealings they would miss.

He had once been in their ages and shoes; impatient, bullheaded and unwilling to take a break. His old boss, Greg…God bless his soul…had taught him what was needed in the business. Calm and control.

“Boss how sure are we that he’s telling the truth. We can’t continue relying on him alone, I think we should rope in another boy in blue.” Axil, the newest member of his proteges suggested, a smug expression on his face. The boy must think himself very intelligent spewing that rubbish, he frowned.

He already had enough ‘boys in blues’ under his payroll. He wasn’t interested in adding more.

“Maybe we could go beyond boss. If this area is hot, we will be welcome else where.” Job imputed, his eyes going round the room for support. Job had been with him since he could remember, but the man lacked so much upstairs. He was a loyal dog though and this trait was why he still kept him.

“Or we could damn those pigs and do our thing. They have no sway over us.” Cross a teenage looking twenty-five years old said. He was the most hardened of all his proteges but he seldomly placed his money where his mouth was.

“Or we could all shut up and do as the boss says.” Tony, his second in command spat, glaring from one face in the room to the other. He smiled at Tony’s outburst. Little wonder why he had elevated him above the others.

He has never been one to lord his authority over his mentorees. He allowed them freedom to voice their opinions but that was as far as it goes. Comprising of age 24 to 27years, he knew too well how subversive these age brackets could be.

He left for Austra one week later for his monthly vacation. Queeneth had gone with the kids four days ago thus he was traveling solo. Or so he told her.

He hardly travelled out of the country without Julian. They had been together and inseparable long before he married his wife. In as much as he had wanted to, Julian had refused to marry him when he had proposed. She was comfortable being his lover, nothing else.

She knew so much about him and had countlessly helped him struck out on gold. He didn’t know how he would have succeeded without Julian. Nor how he could live without her. She was his lover and his muse and he was…what was he to her?
