‘Do whatever he tells you’ (John 2:5) was what Mary said to the stewards at the wedding in Canaan. At the wedding, Mary knows the wine is running out and decides to take action. Even when Jesus protests that now is not the time, Mary refuses to take ‘no’ for an answer. Jesus obeys his mother and tells the stewards what to do, and the result is amazing.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could mean listening to the voice of wisdom, heeding instructions, following good examples, and being transformed for good.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could be, never hesitate to turn to a wise counsel when in need. Choose a useful circle and learn from them.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could be, be a blessing to others, reach out to those in need, answer when others call or perhaps, be an anchor to those in pain.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could mean, live a life others will emulate. Model trust, compassion, love, humility, hard work, justice, intelligence, patience, kindness and other virtues of humanity.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could mean, live a charitable life, reaching out to those in need, those in financial or material difficulty, or those with no food or shelter.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could be, carry the right attitude and take the right actions in times when they’re needed. Speak the truth, bear good witnesses and be on the side of justice when circumstances call.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could mean to offer comfort or support to someone in need. To encourage, to motivate or to console your neighbours when the need arises.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could mean having the courage to face and overcome difficulties just like Mary did. Not losing hope in seemingly hopeless situations but speaking out and seeking solutions no matter how tough it seems.
‘Do whatever he tells you’ could be to live by the word of God, to meditate on it day and night, to trust and obey Him and to walk in His precepts.
There are no excuses to ‘Do whatever he tells you’, not time or convenience. It has to be done when it needs to be done. Change is only possible when actions are taken and when we do what is required to be done.
Dear children and young adults, ‘Do whatever he tells you’. Listen to the voice of wisdom, follow wise instructions, don’t procastinate, don’t be distracted. Take action when it’s needed. Then sit back and watch the astonishing result as you transform from water to a sweet wine.
