PURPOSE MEETS PASSION TO ALIGN WITH VISION.
The correlation between the words; Purpose, Passion, and Vision, and their reflection, discussion, exploration, and action can bring a wave of existential crisis if care is not taken. In reality, many people find the conflation between the concepts confounding. While they are somehow related, they are all different, and exploring them is essential in finding the true path to a fulfilling life.
Let’s make the analysis simpler.
Mr Ben tries to find answers to the reason why he wakes up in the morning, why he pursues his aspirations, and why he strives for success every day. He often ask why he has certain skills, talents, and strengths. He knows he is good in some things and not in others. He knows he cares more about some issues than others and asks why it matters that one issue is addressed before or instead of the other.
The question of why we do certain things is the message of purpose. We fear these questions when we don’t have answers to them even as they seem important. Purpose is an external feeling of what to do and why we do them. It is the why in our actions that propels how we contribute to the world around us.
On the other hand, Mr Ben gets excited and motivated, leaving in the morning for his daily pursuits. He wants to be doing some things, sees himself doing them, and enjoys doing them. He gets motivated as he explores, reflects, and discusses certain issues. He knows he has certain skills and makes use of them consciously, more than anyone else. He does something better than others and takes pleasure in doing them. He may have many skills, but he knows the ones that stick around him and he does that more.
That is the message of passion! It revolves round what we do.
Passion is internal, but purpose is external. Purpose is why we engage in something, Passion is what we engage in. One can only have one purpose but may have multiple passions. True passion meets purpose when passion is discovered to fulfil purpose.
Mr Ben’s vision of how he wants his life is dependent on his purpose and passion. He finds purpose in his vision by reflecting on his passion. He creates the vision of how he wants to use his passion and purpose to achieve the vision. Whilst his purpose and passion lead him to an answer, his vision only shows him what he hopes to achieve. Thus, his purpose, passion, and vision are all crucial to helping him find meaning in his life, but they are not the same. He needs to embed them in order to live a more fulfilling life.
Our perceptions, goals, and pursuits can awaken our minds and propel our actions to create an inherent purpose in our lives. We can live a purpose-led life if we let our lives speak through our purpose, passion, and vision. We must not give room for the rhetoric of purpose without accompanying it with the actions of passion through a credible vision. We must bridge a purpose gap by our passion moves as we focus on the hopes in our vision.
To the children and youths, where do you see yourself in the future? What do you hope to achieve? Have you discovered your passion? Thinking about these sometimes can be paralysing and make one feel pressured to have an amazing life. Having an amazing life isn’t a one-and-done event. It is a journey of a lifetime, pointed in the right direction and guided by each step of the way. It is your purpose, your passion, your vision, and your life!. You need to discover your purpose and align it with your passion to achieve your vision.
